We have a membership to the Vancouver Art Gallery and recently we went to see the current exhibit Mashup. Tues evenings are by donation if you want to bring lots of friends that don’t have a membership. The regular admission is $24 adults, $18 seniors, $18 students with ID, $6.50 for age 5-12 (please refer to their website since the rates can change (https://tickets.vanartgallery.bc.ca/Commerce.Web/product.aspx?id=69691)
The Mashup exhibit features 371 artworks, 156 artists, 30 curators from 1912 to right now. I took my 3 year old who really enjoys museums and art. The one that caught everybody’s attention was the installation Red White Blue by a Hong Kong artist, Stanely Wong. Also known as “another mountain man”. My 3 year old danced her way around the colourful room.
You can easily spend half a day at the gallery and there is a cafe inside if you need to grab a bite and go back to enjoy the exhibits. The video shows the work of Japanese artist, Ujino called Plywood City. It is a performance installation using sound, visuals, and light to play instruments. If you are looking for something to do, go check it out!
